Color Formats Explained

Classic Formats

HEX: Base-16 representation. Most common for web dev.
RGB: Maps directly to screen sub-pixels (Red, Green, Blue).
HSL: Human-intuitive (Hue, Saturation, Lightness).
HWB: Hue, Whiteness, Blackness. Like mixing paint.
CMYK: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key. Used for printing.

Wide Gamut Spaces

sRGB: The default web standard.
Display P3: 50% wider than sRGB. Used by Apple displays.
Rec2020: Standard for 4K/8K Ultra-HD broadcast.
XYZ: The mathematical root of all color spaces.

Modern Perceptual (CSS4)

LAB: Covers human vision spectrum. Perceptually uniform.
LCH: Cylindrical LAB. Useful for generating palettes.
OKLAB: Mathematically improved LAB. Better for gradients.
OKLCH: The new gold standard for CSS color manipulation.
